The first year Tibetan language class has fiinished.  The first year students

began their year learning the Tibetan “alphabet”, gradually incorporating

conversation skills into colloquial vocabulary and grammar. The second term

added classical Tibetan in addition to continuing with colloquial Tibetan.

A big thank you goes out to all of the teachers who guided the students

with immeasurable kindness from the first day up until graduation.

Congratulations to all first year students!

It is now Winter Break for everyone.  Time for attending Kalachakra in

Bodhgaya, going home to visit family and friends, etc.

Many of the first year graduates will continue with the second year

courses which will begin in March 2012.

See you next year!

Unbelievable! The first four students just graduated from the Buddhist Philosophical Program, the first ever completedThosamling.

Thanks to the amazing qualities of our teacher, Geshe Tsewang Nyima! During four years, his patience, enthusiasm, dedication, discrimination and great knowledge, all rooted in his great kindness led us from the very first debate on ‘colors’ up to the paths and grounds of Kalachakra! There is no word good enough to praise him!

Based on my own experience, I would really advise this program for anyone who speaks some Tibetan and wants to study Buddhist philosophy as presented in Tibetan monasteries and shedras, but in a more condensed way and shorter time. So if you don’t have the opportunity to study for 10 to 20 years and still want to acquire a thorough basis of knowledge for your Dharma practice, rooted in the wisdom of the past great practitioners and scholars, this is your chance! The next program will start in March 2012.

In November, the Thosamling community had the great pleasure of a visit

by Bhikshuni Thubten Chodron.  Venerable Chodron has been an ordained alt

nun for more than 25 years, and is the abbess of Sravasti Abbey, a thriving monastic community in the US Northwest (Washington State).

We performed a Lama Chopa tsog offering, followed by a talk by Venerable Chodron entitled “Harmony in Community”.  Venerable Chodron shared her experience with us regarding the challenges of community living, and how it offers rich opportunity for personal growth.
