There are limited places available for nuns to join the Thosamling community.  For this reason our nunnery is run according to firm guidelines. Please read the sections below so that you have a clear understanding of the contributions all nuns are required to make before you apply to visit or join Thosamling.

Thosamling community rejoices that it is currently able to offer all food and accommodation to resident and visiting nuns at no cost. In return we require nuns to contribute to the ongoing task of running the nunnery by contributing thirteen hours of karma yoga each week. Nuns who are studying fulltime in our prgrams  will have less hours.

Your Time Commitment

Nuns are encouraged to join Thosamling Nun’s community by making a commitment of one year or more. Nuns can also apply to visit Thosamling for a period of strict or semi-retreat. In these cases  nuns should contact us with an outline of what they will be doing over their stay. Nuns who are not in strict retreat are expected to contribute thirteen hours of karma yoga each week.

Nuns doing Strict a Retreat

Places available for nuns wanting to do strict supported retreat, not participating in the community are extremely limited. In order tomake this possible nuns are required to volunteer for the nunnery for the same amount of days they undertake strick retreat .For example, a nun doing one month retreat would also provide one month of service giving four hours of work each day. Nuns who are unable to contribute volunteer hours to the nunnery also have the option of paying for their meals and accommodation at the nuns rate of half price for the period of their retreat.

All nuns except those in Strict Retreat would also have the following Commitments:
